Female Northern Flicker (Red Shafted Flicker)

Too bad this wasn't a male. It would have been a lot more colorful, but it was awfully nice of her to spread those wings, so we could see the color on the underside. She was grooming herself on the side of this old snag. I wanted to get a picture of her in flight, so I sat on a boulder, and honed-in on her. She must really be a fastidious groomer because I sat there for about 15 minutes watching her primp before she finally left. And then, wouldn't you know it, she was so fast I missed the shot!
